Spline Count Questions
What is the difference in spline count on trannies and why is there differences? Is one stronger than the other? Just curious.

There are 10 spline and 26 spline. The 26 spline is stronger due to more contact area. I think it was around 70 they went to a 26 spline or was it 71. Don't have my books handy.

Early Muncies, PG's and TH 350's have a 27 spline output where newer Muncies, TH 400's and Super T-10's have 32 spline ouput shafts. The more splines, the more power the shaft can transmit.

The reason I ask is I am putting my Keisler in and it is a 26 spline input shaft and my Muncie is a 10 spline input. Can I reuse my new pressure plate and just get a 26 spline clutch and all be ok. I only have about 2000 miles at the most on what is installed right now.
