I will be purchasing and installing a nitrous system this winter. I'm just trying to get all the information I can on the preferred brand of system, and where the best place to bring the nitrous line thru the firewall is, if I mount the tank behind the seats, and would it be feasible to use the current transmission kickdown switch as a WOT sensor. I've read all the archived articles and got alot of good information, but any more would been greatly appreciated.
Will you use the car as a daily driver. If so it is not a good ideal to have nitrous bottle in the passenger compartment. I use the Edelbrock System on my drag car. works very good and constant. I would use a micro switch for the WOT solely for nitrous to keep from kicking it in only at WOT. As far as running the nitrous line you could run it through the battery box along the wire loom to the starter this will keep you from cutting a hole in the fire wall. You have keep in mind the amount of nitrous shot you use so that you keep the timing adjusted properly. What system were you going to use a WET or DRY ?
I was planning on using a 100 to 125 hp wet system. Running the nitrous hose along with the battery cable is a good idea, the only problem I see is that is it would would have to come up by the headers. As far as the WOT switch goes, I think the current switch only activates at WOT since thats the only time the flap in the cowl induction opens. Thanks for the input.
Go get a switch from any a/c supply house, it's the same thing from nitrous express, i used to sell for them. it's a small on off switch the has a spring return so it doesn't lock in the on position, it's a little silver lever right on a small black switch.
The car currently runs 13.20s at 105 mph. Thats with street tires, full exhaust with an X pipe, shorty headers and a quadrajet with a 3.70 rearend. I'm very happy with the way the car idles and it has plenty of low RPM torque, just looking to run in the mid 12s with a very streetable car.
I would suggest you go with a adjustable system 100- 250 hp if you go with a 75-150 system you will limit your self to 150hp. The solenoids will keep you from going to a larger shot if you go with the larger system you can always jet down and still have the option of going to more hp without changing solenoids. I made this mistake remember bigger is not always better but if you have it its easer to use.
