Mine are going on next week. Any tips or tricks? :skep:
I thought you were going with the facotry '69 style?
If so they get hot, but NOTHING compared to the Hooker Side mounts!!
I am probably crazy, but went with the real "originals." :skep:
I think the originals look SO much better, but I couldn't afford $3K. Plus 2.5 inch exhaust would seriously hinder power on my Big Block, so I went with the Hookers. If your ankle touches the '69 cover it will be hot enough for you to pull away, but it will not leave a scar like the Hookers.
You are going to get burned ... just the way it is .....
best part though , the side covers are fined, so the marks on your leg are going to make you look like a grilled chicken ...... :D
Like they said above, step wide when leaving the car.
Keep kids REAL far away from the covers.
They get the hotest when you've been traveling on the hwy.
Around town, with minimal driving, they are not so bad.
Also, heat creeps in from under the door and heats the side of the seat up pretty bad. If you keep the windows closed or near closed (when on the hwy) and the A/C on, the heat does not creep in.
The door sills also get heated up pretty good too. Remember, the mufflers are turned up inside the covers and are tilted towards the frame rail.
PS ... be really careful reaching under the car to pick up something that rolled under it. I just made this mistake 2 days ago and have burn marks the doctor ensures me will leave bad scars. The mufflers get really freeking HOT.
Like everyone else has said, step wide. I carry a towel in the back for when my wife rides along. I burned my leg once, on the test drive before I bought it. I haven't burnt it since!
Okay this reminds me of that fateful weekewnd
lets see last Memorial Weekend.
Sat- go to FAUXRS help him install new color matched side pipe covers, 1st go for ride with no covers on. Using my shere brilliance put both my legs (in shorts) against his passenger side pipe and have 2 nice scars to this day.
Next day
Sun- 1100PM going home, damn near killed by drunk college student. "scratch one 77 Corvette and 5 long years of labor and love"
Side pipe discussions always remind me of this.
Bad weekend for me.
:(
Which ones? Hookers or stock? If it's Hookers, then JCL sells a polished S/S burn shield for them. I got sick of rosebuds on my ankles, so I called Jim and bought a pair for the '79.
Look good-work good!
