Default Rebuilding/upgrading C3

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I'm planning in buying a C3, and I've seen alot of good deals on cars with lots of miles, decent pain etc. I'm talking about 2 grand for the car.
So my question is, how much would it be to buy and install a LT1 engine on it with around 30k miles? and how much is a good paint job? and finally, is this worth it?
Just in case, I live in Los Angeles.

thanks.
Joz

Welcome to the forum. :seeya

We, at Van Steel, also build hot rods. We use a lot of used LT1's and we usually pick them up for around $3000 w/tranny. A good paint job is going to cost you about 4-5K. I think it's worth it if it's what you like. Just make it look clean when you do it.

2 grand seems a bit low for a C3 with decent anything.
This is a typical 2G C3

And this is a fairly nice one for the asking price of $2,600 (no engine or transmission). At least the wheels look decent.

You are most likely going to need alot more than just a new engine and paint job. And trust me parts for a 30 year old corvette are sometimes not cheap.

Before you decide to buy one order as many free corvette parts catalogs as you can and take a look at what parts might cost. When looking at the prospective car estimate what parts it would need to make it an acceptable ride for you and do an estimate from the catalogs to see what it may cost you to fix it up then multiply the estimate by 3.

Good luck with your search

David

what ever you pay for your "fixer up" -count on spending at least that much , maybe 2x , again buying what you didn't realize it needed
