As a new 68 owner, can someone please tell me which side the seat release is supposed to be on? I just purchased this car a few weeks ago, and noticed that the seat release is on the door side for the drivers side, and on the gear shift side for the passenger side - I am imagining that I have two of the same seats side seats in the car... but would like to know the correct location so I can correct. I purchased this car from a guy who obviously partially fixed things to sell it... ie. average paint, a few 1/2 butt fixes etc. However I love vettes, and when I have finished correcting his BS it will be well worth it.
And here I am thinking that I have two of the same seats in the car --- duh...
Thanks for the quick response. The releases are I suppose high. Close to shoulder level - is that high or low. My 95 it was behind the head rest.
What other quirks can I expect??? Mine only has 47K on it, so it has sat most of its life, and I am in the process of replacing/ fixing a few things to make it more dependable etc. - radiator, water pump, hoses, belts, ign. wires, a few electrical pieces, and now I am working on the vacuum system... anything else I should start thinking about ahead of time???
I love my 68. Although she hasn't been tended to like I tend to my cars.. I had no idea what an eye catcher this is - worth every penny.
"Quirks" was a bad choice of words. 68's have a number of unique, one-year only features that set them apart. Save all OEM parts you take off, you might want to rebuild them later.
I you think 68's are quirky then try 69's. They made them for 16 months. There were early 69's, early lates, lates and late tates. Four different valve covers, several engine blocks and heads, two non interchangable seat belt designs. Two hood cables. Two wiper canisters. Top post batteries and side post batteries. Some carpets had dimmer pads others didn't. The list goes on and on.
It's a good summary of the unique for '68 stuff. There's even more than this but these are some of the biggies. Like the other poster said, don't throw anything away. The unique '68 stuff can fetch big $$$ if you sell it or can cost big $$$ if you need to buy it.
Give your brakes a thorough going through. Corvette brakes are finicky and 35+ year old brake lines in a car that hasn't had the greatest upkeep over the years might be worth taking a second look, especially the rear cross-over line. Have the calipers been rebuilt with SS liners? If not, check to see if they're leaking.
Wouldn't want to lose your baby (or more) because of a brake problem.
yes, it does have ss line, and a recent brake rebuild. This was one of the big attractions for me, along with highrise edelbrock intake, and an overall good looking car with alot of potential....
