Default Another exhaust question

I am planning on installing Dynomax headers with the chambered undercar exhaust pipes this winter. Mid America says that some welding is required to fit the pipes to headers. My question is if I install the headers at home is there some way to temporarily attach the pipes so I can dive to a muffler shop, or do I drive with just the headers, or do I bring everything to the shop and have them do all of the work?

Before I did my own exhaust work I kept a pair of header mufflers around for that reason. I've also driven cars to the shop with open headers.

If the exhaust system comes with short sections of chambered pipe then try attaching the header collector reducers to that section of pipe using clamps... making your own temporary header muffler.

If I were you I would have the entire system installed by a performance exhaust shop. I just had my Mid America Chambered exhaust installed last month on my '73. Mid America is right you do get the 60's sound but be prepared for a much louder sound then you would expect.

:iagree:
I drove my '76 to the muffler shop with just the headers attached. Was really loud, but I did not get stopped.
My mechanic said that the chanmbered exhaust setup was the best job he had seen in a long time. They installed extra hangers and welded areas that did not need welded, but made the job more professional.
The installation of the chambered exhaust with all the bends, etc. was only around $120.oo.

I'm pondering exhaust options, too.
I'm considering the M-A 2.5" stainless-steel/true-dual/no-cat kit (fits directly to the OEM manifolds) with LOUD mufflers (I'm guessing total cost approx $500), or...
DYNOMAX ceramic-coated headers ($225), then having my buddy's shop custom-bend a set of 2.5" (NOT stainless-steel, tho) true-duals the WHOLE way back, no cat OR mufflers (driving less than 5000 miles a year, I'm exempt from the sniffer, tho I'd fail a 'visual'...), and add 'new' chrome tips!
I'm guessing the 2nd option would cost the same as the first, and would offer MUCH better performance (even from a stock Cross-Fire!!! ).
Any ideas/opinions on this???
(sorry: I hope I'm not hi-jacking this thread...)

What exhaust shop are you going to? If you don't want to drive with open headers (which would be fun anyway :) ) you could use some flex pipe to connect the headers to the rear pipes. I have been driving around with flex pipe all summer... MJ
