I CANNOT START MY 79 VERT. THE SOLENOID ON THE STARTER DOES NOT CLICK NOR DOES THE ENGINE CRANK. THE DIAGNOSTIC TREE IN THE CORVETTE SERVICE MANUAL STATES CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE NEUTRAL START SWITCH TERMINALS. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH IS IN THE VEHICLE. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THIS IS SO I CAN CHECK IT.
The haynes manual states that the automatic trans. neutral saftey switch in located next to the shifter under the console.
Have you determined yet if your battery is good? Are the terminal on the battery, ground and solenoid are free of corrosion? Have you tested the starter/solenoid yet? Connect a jumper cable from the positive battery terminal to the "S" terminal on the solenoid. Now try and start the car, if you get power to the starter it's either the neutral saftey switch, a fuseable link, ignition switch or a grounding issue. If you have no power to the solenoid it's most likely the solenoid/starter and should be replaced.
Good luck in determining the problem, let me know what the cause was.
If your vert is a 4sp, the NSS is located on the bracket that carries the clutch and brake pedals. It is directly above the clutch pedal arm. It is a B___H to reach and get out. Many have wired it out of the circuit.
Had a new starter on standby. Put it in and the engine cranked but would not start. I think the the distributor is off. The fittings at the bottom of the fuel pump were leaking and the Edel carb spat atomized fuel upwards. I got a few problems here.
