Default Hurst Lightning Rods Question???

Hi All, Thought I'd tap into all of the C3 modification knowledge on this forum and see if anyone has ever installed a Hurst Lightning Rod shifter in a C3? I just picked one up and am interested in suggestions from anyone who's put one of these in what modifications they did to the console to make it look pretty. I have some ideas but I'd check before I started to hack on the center console.

I have the '70-'81 F-body-specific "HURST Dual-Gate II" shifter in my '79 Z28; it has a small-case 'h'-pattern; the 'cross-over' is Nuetral, and the 'Right-Side' has individual 'detents' for the 1-2, and 2-3 shifts.
What the chances of 'hiding' one of these (or even the 'generic' Dual-Gate II) shifter under the leather 'boot' in a C3?
Since my '82 can't be 'held' in 1st Gear (700R4-shifter only 'goes' into 2nd, 3rd (drive), and 4th (OD), I'd consider one for my C3.
Hell, I'd probably settle for a 'T-handle' on the 'stock' shifter-stick, instead of the '8-ball'.....

I got the 4 speed set, I have a 700r4 that will be going back in it when I get the motor finished. However its great ideas such as putting this shifter in the car that keeps this entire project dragging on forever.....

I didn't have much trouble installing mine. I have a TH400 from "TCI" so I used the 3 speed set-up. :D I have the 4 speed set-up as well (future project). When you take out your stock shifter out... use one of the mounting brackets from the stock shifter and weld it to the base of the "Hurst Lightning Rods"! If you want to see a picture of my set-up go to my web page. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/pacecar454//
