I have investigated several of the after-market seat manufacturers' spec /
measurements for something I can install in my 77....but still no luck.
They are all too wide. My seat bottoms are 19.5" across and the best replacement I find is 21" wide. Just do not believe there is room between the console and closed door. Keep in mind the seat cushion height, also, or you will be driving with the tops off always.
I called autotoystore.com and talked with a very knowledgeable gentleman.
He was not encouraging. They carry most of the seat suppliers products and indicated that Corvettes are a real problem to fit. I am very hesitant to order
seats and find they do not fit. Returning could be a real hassle.
Anyway, if you find something that fits, I would appreciate a note.
The Sparco Ultra is the biggest I could fit because of my roll cage. Look at it's dimensions on the web site. I also had to fabricate mounts because the Sparco adjustable put the seat to high and to far forward.
they are really nice seats and I've driven 1400 miles with just gas stops.
You don't want seats that are really large above the shoulders because they limit rear vision to much.
merlin who had the recaros?? I don't remember which he had, but they were big and required body mods. His car was total custom. The floor panels were all custom.
To do a C-3 like mine right you should make the center tunnel smaller and cut out the two inch raised section under the seat and make the whole floor flat. For taller people I would even move the battery out behind the passenger rear tire down low and then cut and reglass that part of the floor pan wall farther back.
Only non folding seats are really safe in an accidents. Fiberglass and Carbon fiber allow some flex in a high "G" impact so they are not only lighter, but safer also.
I think that my seats are only 12 pound 6 oz. With the 5 point harnesses and seat that holds your thighs, butt, and chest in place in high "G" turns. It just is a world of difference road racing your Vette. You just feel like your a part of the car and you can tell when the rear end is hanging out. You no longer have to brace yourself in place. You just learn to drive straight looking out the side window coming out of turns
