Enter your tire size at the top, and click on the arrows to select your tranny type (at left of sheet). Select the speed desired by clicking on the rpm@speed arrows (far right column). Read the rpm@speed column while clicking the rearend arrows until you get a match to the rpm you are seeing. The rearend ratio will be displayed next to the arrows. It sounds harder than it is, just play around with the arrows, you'll see what is happening :D

Re: Need a gear ratio calculator (GaryS)
I'm beginning to doubt the accuracy of the speedo and tach. A previous owner had changed the speedo to the 140mph from a '79. I'm hoping they didn't change the speedometer cable gears.
If they are accurate, I've got some really tall gears. Based on three different calculators I've tried, I have about a 5.893:1 rear end. First off, do they even make gear ratios that tall? Second, why the hell would anyone ever want a gear ratio like this that wasn't into offroad rock crawling???
Have a friend drive next to you and tell you your speed. Sounds flaky if you're doing everything right. At that ratio your top speed would be maybe 75 or 80 Mph. I think I remember seeing a kit to make the 140Mph work somewhere, sounds like you need one.
If you can't find a friend to 'pace' you (HIS speedo might be off, too!), try finding a stretch of marked' highway, with mile-posts.
Drive at varying RPMs until you click 'em off in 60 tics (seconds); this is 60 MPH.
When you know your RPMs @ 60 MPH, let me know.....
