Anyone With Autozone Calipers Read This
I just rebuilt my Autozone calipers. I only put them on the front of my car. The back ones were fine. They are stainless lined and have not leaked since I put them on. This morning while tearing them down, I noticed that the crossbolts were not torqued to spec. As a matter of fact one of the bolts was just barely snug tight. Scary thought for me. The spec on the front calipers is 130Ft.Lbs. So let me suggest that you get your little torque wrench and go hit the calipers and make sure that they are up to snuff. Just a little safety thought.

I would say check every bolt you can see/find, I found both of my lower passenger side lower a-arms bolts loose with one almost all the way out. Now when ever I am working in an area I check all the bolts around me just to be safe.

The last time I bought calipers at auto zone ( 4 piston calipers for my 67 Firebird), I had a crack in each of then, I took them back and had a crack in only one. I decided not to buy calipers at auto zone after that.

I replace the front brake hoses on my van with some from A/Z . A year later I lost my brakes... The cause was .. are you ready?? The fitting had NEVER been crimped. It amazes me how it stayed together for a year. Good thing I was in a parking lot when it happened. Add that to my list of reasons not to buy stuff at discount places. Batteries, wax and oil only.

Wow...reading all of this makes one shudder....gotta watch the Chines made stuff. I've purchased a lot from Autozone, hte last purchase, last week....oil pump for the Turbo Buick. Now, when the oil is cold at idle, I get 20 lbs, and when hot, it drops to almost 0...this is a Mellings pump...after reading this, I'm thinking...hmmmmm, time to pull it and replace it...
