Does any one know if the drive shafts (transmission to differential) on big block automatics (e.g. 1973) were different than those on later small block (e.g. 1980) automatics? I need one, and there is one available from a 1980, but I want to make sure it will hold up to my 454.
Be careful which year drive-shaft you get, Until 1982 they have what is called the small u-joints on the auto vettes. In 82 they went to a larger u-joint.
But I'm not sure if the 82 shaft will work for you either.
Your best bet will be someone here that really knows what they are talking about (unlike me). Or give one of the vendors a call. Van Steel comes to mind. http://www.vansteel.com/ :seeya

Thanks,
The Corvette parts catalog show the same part number for the propeller (drive) shaft (378231) for all manual and automatic cars from 1968-1979. 1980 and 1981 automatic transmission cars used pn 14014603 while 1980 and 1981 manual transmission cars used pn 1401406. The 1982 automatics used pn 14041083.
The 1980-82 cars used a different (aluminum Dana) rear end and the 1982 had a different automatic than prior years.
