ADVICE ON TUNE-UP
Now it has a miss. Could be anything but I believe it to be the dist. Now it has a dual points and I love the maintenace free aspect of HEI or any elec. distributer, adjust timing/ vac. advance and your done forever. Points I'm clueless on, #1 cylinder, buy a dweel metet all that horse poopie. But I do not want to buy another dist. when the points one is 2 months old. What do you guys think of those MSD conversion kits?
Pertronix new Ignitor II conversion systems have all of the same quality features as the original Ignitor, plus a powerful microprocessor controller to deliver three to five times more available energy between 3,000 to 5,000 rpm. They're an ideal choice for collector car restoration because they fit entirely under the distributor cap.
Will this work for a points to elec. conversion? Will it work with my Mallory coil and ballast?
Second question, timing.....owner's manual calls for 4 degrees BTDC at 700 RPM w/ vac. advance disconnected. The other end of the spectrum is 32 degrees BTDC
I have no friggin clue what kind of cam is in this thing, the original owner doens't know jack[/B] what the hell do I set it at?????????????????????
12 degrees, I don't know.
Third question. Carb is Eldebrock Model #1400, 650 mech. secondary. I no longer have my vacuum guages but rule of thumb. With car warmed up, 700 RPM, off choke, turn clockwise on either left or right bank idle circuit needle till CAR DROPS IN SPEED, STOP, then open back up 2 turns counter clockwise. Do same to other bank.
This sound about right for getting in the ballpark?
If anyone is in the San Diego area and knows points I'd be more than willing to supply you with all the   to help me with the tune-up.

Lars has written great papers on setting the timing and carbs. You can find them at Terry's http://www.corvettefaq.com site. Here is a link to his timing paper. If you do as he says you cannot go wrong. http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/HowToSetTiming.doc
Right now I am waiting to get my car back so I can switch to an MSD setup including the distributor. The HEI is nice, but I want my tach drive tach to work as before.

Installing a Unilite conversion is one of the first things I plan to do to the new 71 vert, when it gets here.
I'd offer to bring down my dwell meter and assist you with adjusting your points, and consuming your beer, but I have to many things to do before business takes me to Chicago next week.

Convert to a more accurate spark.
GM: 1957-74, single and dual point GM Delco distributors, Unilite breakerless ignition conversion kit
Convert your OEM style breaker points and condenser to the more reliable Unilite ignition from Mallory. This self-contained unit has no moving parts to wear out, so it provides many years of trouble free service. Simply replace the stock points with the Unilite module which consists of a photo coupler, signal processor, and power switch. Each time the shutter wheel stops the infrared light from reaching the photo coupler, the electronic circuitry energizes the ignition coil. When the shutter wheel allows the light to reach the photo coupler, the stored energy in the coil discharges. This kit can drive both OEM and high performance ignition coils and is designed for 1957-74 single and dual point GM Delco distributors.
Sold as a kit.
