Default crusie control ????

Can anyone suggest a crusie control for my 79? I don't care if it is an original type, I just want it to work. Thanks

On my 69 I have a speed-density Tuned-Port. I used an 88-99 GM truck (also Cavalier, late Blazer, and 92-96 Caprice) cruise control. It is electronic and completely self contained. I am using an output from the (7730) computer, but you could probably use a 4000 pulse per mile generator signal straight from the transmission, Painless sells them for about $75. I am using one of these to supply a VSS to my computer. By the way, you can’t use an 82 style pulse generator on the speedometer, it is only 2000 pulses per mile as are mass-air-flow Tuned-Port computer output signals. Maybe some of the electronics experts will know if a buffer is required with this straight-from-the-generator setup or a way around it. If you get a complete truck cruise module and wiring harness (I paid $20 for mine) then a turn-stalk from an 81-82 that has resume ($95 NOS from Dr Rebuild) should plug right into a 78-82 column and the truck harness. You probably already have the correct brake-light switch, if not late 80s Camaros will work. You might have to fabricate a bracket for the cable at the carburetor, but that should be easy. I mounted the unit on the LH inner fender and it’s hard to see. If you ever plan to go electronic (TPI, LT1, etc.) then this will fit right in. I like it because it is small, self contained, and uses no vacuum. On mine I couldn’t get a turn signal switch to use a later stalk so I have a 4-prong weatherpack hidden behind the radio and a short harness with a SPST toggle and a DPDT momentary toggle in a box for controls that I can plug in when I want to use it.

I might add to this description and some photos and write a "tech tip". What is the proceedure for submitting a tech tip? It is a really compact, clean installation and for the 78-82 guys the switches can be done factory as well.

Rostra Products make after market units. Rostra has a website, not certain the address, but just search for Rostra. I would like to get one for my 1973, but it is a low priority now. Maybe next summer so I can take my Corvette to Carlisle.
