Why is it that when i took my stock distributor out the teeth on the gear were wearing funny, it is a comp cam and they said i do not need a bronze gear???????????? Anybody have a answer for this one, THANKS, John :seeya
Which oil pump are you using? Factory, Aftermarket, Hi Vol, Hi Press etc ??
Which oil are you using? 10-30? 50-racing?
The cam drives the distributor, the distributor drives the oil pump.
Depending on year, the dist also drives the tach. if the dist is factory.
All of the load goes through the cam/dist gears.
The distributor shaft endplay also needs to be within limits. Shims are used to adjust.
Last... there is a "fitment" problem with aftermarket intake manifolds where the boss/face where the distributor sits on the intake is the wrong vertical position (height) and/or the wrong ID (inside diameter) for the distributor. A mis-aligned set of gears can result.
It all has to be looked at if you know you have the correct material dist gear for the cam.
