Default cowl induction rubber seal thickness

I'm trying to fabricate a cowl induction setup. How thick was the rubber seal between the hood and the contact surface on the air cleaner? I want to make sure that I allow sufficient flexibility such that I don't crack/break the hood.

when mine was stock: between the top of my aircleaner and the hood, without the seal, was about 2". Now there is aout 1 1/4"

Wow, that's fairly big gap to cover. What kind of rubber is this and what would be a good choice of rubber material to fabricate this? I'm trying to use the cowl induction to feed air into a forward facing throttle body and I got the setup to fit within 1/4" ....I can trim either piece to "gap" it a more, but now I need to find the necessary rubber material.

I've been interested in doing something similar - one of those fantasy build-ups. Can you post pics of what you got?
