well i thought i was screwed but I shut it off in time. I just changed my oil and didn't notice that the old rubber ring from the oil filter was stuck to the engine still. well i proceded to screw on my new oil filter and I thought something felt weird. Well I filled up my engine and started her up with my brand new 383....only 30miles on it.....and after a few seconds heard a funny clicking noise very very faint and looked down and saw the oil pressure dropping...i shut it down right when it hit "0" I then look under the car and saw the old ring pushed out.....dang that coulda sucked...hope everything is okay..i refilled and changed the filter...running okay with no unusual noises. 60 lbs at idle and 80 when cold under a 1/3 throttle.

I did the same thing, but, with the marvels of Mobil One, I was able to drive about 20 highway miles. Then suddenly, bang, bang, bang, there went the motor. That is, in a nutshell, why I have a replacement motor in my 82.

If I didn't read this, could I have a ZZ4 in place of my GW350?
My engine died due to oil too. I think it was the fact that the oil was leaking out the side of the engine block that really got me...
:D
Thanks for the warning though, I'll keep that in mind from hear on it. One thing- I always kick the engine over without starting it a couple times whenever I do an oil change to check for leaks. Let it run for 10 seconds or so, check, then shut it off and put it back on the ground.

Good reason to run a guage, light, alarm,...anything that will let you know there is no pressure...how many people drive around with one eye on the oil pressure guage?

 Thanks for posting as feedback helps everyone.
How bout this? After reading posts for installing fuel pump pushrods I could not recall removing any rod-locking bolt on side of block. But hey, there sure was a threaded bolthole there. And with a mirror I could see the pumps pushrod too. Guess I solved another oil leak before start-up. Thanks to Bubba engine installer before I bought car it was just flowing open while running and I never noticed.

I did that many many many many years ago on a 69 Camaro I had. Except I didn't know it happened until I was leaving for partynite and saw my Mom running down the driveway after me with her arms waving madly over her head. After I stopped, she said I was leaking oil all the way down the driveway. Thanks again, Mom!!
