I am going to replace all the u joints on my 76 and i called my local autozone and can buy them for about $10 ea. I remeber reading on the forum that they are not very good and there is a better one on the market.
Should i use the grease type or not?
I dont realy care about the price I just want to use the best i can and do it once. Will i also run into any unforseen problems?
Also where do i buy them
Thanks
Geoff
I run the solid Spicer ujoints in mine. (no grease fitting). Don't know about Autozone joints or who makes them. For a stock motor and driver they would be fine. If you are running some mods on the motor and run it hard, solids are cheap insurance against breakage. Nothing is break proof, but solids are stronger.
Half shaft U joint are the ones you CANNOT scrimp on.. Even with a stock engine. Solid (non greasable) SPICERS are what you need .. About $20-$22 at a drive line shop. There are lots of people that have had bad experience with other joints. The last thing you want is a loose half shaft sinning under your car at 70mph. It will ruin your day. If you've never done half shaft joints you are in for a surprise. They are tough. You need a big vise or a press is even better. Don't try it with a hammer.
