Having finally finished the engine I finally got to the point where I could hook up power after two long years of inactivity. Much to my dismay NOTHING happened. No lights, no power to the gauges.... nothing. I traced power back from the starter through the starter harness to the main harness. Then I proceeded to stand on my head in the floorboard and trace wires for quite sometime and could never find any power.
Any suggestions?? I have an alarm that was wired by the previous owner. Could this thing fail and cut off power?? I had to come inside before I got totally frustrated and started yanking things in earnest.
Thanks....

OK, the negative battery ground to the frame has to be good, right under the battery box, and then the engine ground cable) from the frame to the engine mount on the pass side...and of course the battery positive wire to the starter solenoid....with of course it's wire to the harness....
after that, we into the wiring of the car or the bulkhead/firewall plug under the brakes....
you need a decent DVM to measure voltages, and turn on the headlights if everything I mentioned seems ok....need a bit of electrical smarts too...
Well.. the DVM went belly up.. sat too long the the batteries corroded.. doh!
Looks like it is time for a trip to Sears.
Anyway.. I just printed off some schematics. I am just at a loss.. there is electricity to the alternator. And then right into the plug at the firewall. At that point it disappears. Or maybe I am not just found the right wires yet. She is just DEAD as a can be.
OK, when you get the DVM, check the voltages at the battery, and with the headlights on, check the voltages again....and see where they disappear at....
don't worry about starting engine just yet....there is the stud at the alternator...heavy red wire, and again at the horn relay on/under the driver's fender...bunch of wires connected there...it's a power distribution block of sorts....assuming an early shark....I fergit about later ones....
lemme know what you find....IM if you want....
Thanks for your input mrvette. Seems there wasn't a lot of electrical input over the weekend. Since I didn't have power after the point of entering the firewall, and couldn't see well under the dash. I decided just to remove the dash and strip it all out so I can see better. Now maybe I can find the problem. I am wondering if it is the alarm system since it appears to be a huge rats nest. Not sure why it would fail after all these years but who knows.. odder things have happened.
Thanks
