How the 1979 Registry coming along? I haven't peeked for several months.
My thought is to preserve the original ralleys: have them stripped and painted. Then stored. They are unique to 1967 being only 6" wide. And originals are getting rare. I worry about caliper/fender clearance problems but I am sure the manufacturer can advise. This means new tires as well.....
The registry is doing just fine, lot of changes coming shorty, like a proper notice board and event calendar etc. In you car I would propably stay with 15" wheels too. You can use 225/15/60 tires all around on 8" wide wheels. But like I've said so many times before, ralleys are hard to beat, they look fantastic in every C2 and C3. :yesnod:
Glad to hear the registry is well and active! I would stay with the 6" width and 215-70R/15 tires. Probably BFG. I too like the classic look of the ralleys and would not sell them. I just like a change from time to time.
You won`t like the price but PS engineering in CA is making a replica of the original Torque Thrust "D" (I believe D is for disc brakes) around $1700 per set and the choice of vintage racers everywhere (I look).

I agree with you totally. (See link. The direct link does does not work hence my edits. But if you scroll down you will see they (105-5661) run about $160.00 each brand new.) But if the modern D version does not clear the calipers then they are no use to me. I have sent out feelers re the availability of some "real" Ds. If you have friends wth some...let me know. http://www.newstalgiawheel.com
I can give you the name and email address of the shop that machined them for me if you'd like. He did a very nice job on them and they do include the lug studs. Cost was $200 plus $8 shipping for a set of four. ....and they are adapters, not spacers.
*Edit* - The original message has been removed as I am eating crow and humble pie... . In other words I have changed my mind. I will retain the original ralleys as they are very pretty wheels and I will not part with them. But I have found a nice deal on American Racing CL205s (15 x 6") with the correct back spacing, confirmed by American Racing itself. With wheels, caps, lug nuts with locks, and shipping to Canada the total is $993US. So I went with it. The Wife does not know she is getting a Christmas present .
Paul, I just got my "D" lookalikes from P.S. Engineering today from the brown truck. I will snap a couple of pictures if you would like. Red Vet is right that they were not cheap but they do look beautiful. Bill. Oh and no spacers required. I got 4 15 inch by 8.5 inch with 4.25 backspacing.
They are not cheap but they are new and unmolested. I could not go the EBay route with this purchase: I do not enjoy counting down to sniper attacks and I like a solid price. The vendor contacted the manufacturer (American Racing) on my behalf to guarantee the back spacing for a C2. So this one is a go. I stayed with the 15 x 6" for the 1967 to preserve some originality and avoid fender lip interference. To emulate the original 7.75-15s I am thinking of BFG TA 215-70R/15s. They should fit very nicely as that is the size of the tires on my car at the moment. (I will go with blackwells with those wheels.) I do get discounts at a GM dealer where I formerly worked so Michelin is an option as well. But opinions are welcomed. The centres I will paint in semi-gloss black over the winter. That look appeals to me.
They may not be here by Christmas as they are being custom made in the 6" size and with the C2 backspacing. But the vendor was hopeful.
They certainly will go on in April. I normally do the ceremonial roll-out of storage the long Easter weekend. That is after not seeing the car for five long months. After 18 years of performing that ceremony it never loses on excitement. You fellows/gals who drive all year long have no idea....
I will be shopping for tires in the near future. At this point I have not decided on a brand. I was thinking of going retro to tires of that period (redlines) but I have read that the repros are of dubious quality. So it may be Michelin for the sake of safety.

It took 8 week to make mine, they are basically the same wheels as you ordered just 5" larger diameter and few inch wider, hopefully you'll get yours faster.

I hear you Paul, the winters are long in Finland too, but on the other hand it gives you good reason to work on the car for few months. I think it wouldn't be nearly as exciting to drive the Vette every day 365 days/year.

No doubt red lines or gold lines would go well with the nostalgig look, you might try some old school firestones... :yesnod: :steering:
