Default ANOTHER electricty question

OK. I am obviously at my wits end. Last night I figured I have power to the headlights (even though they will not come on) and nothing to the fuse panel. About the only thing i did was take the engine harness out and put loom on it. That and replaced the ground strap on the engine. Puhlease.. anybody chime in.

Under the front nose there are some insulated electric connecters and on mine the connections were coroded up and I lost the ground for my lights. You might want to check out just in case. Good luck, I know I've been there and it kept me off the road a while, trying to figure it out.

You need three things for a headlight to light,
1 12 volts to the light
2 resistance through the bulb
3 ground on the other side
use a multimeter to check for voltage at the bulb, check for a low resistance throught the bulb, and check continuity from the other side of the bulb to ground (the frame), and from the frame to the negative side of your battery.
If you have all those things Ohms law says the bulb will light.

But aside from all this.. why is the fuse panel dead. Could losing ground somewhere else be causing this??

What are you checking in the fuse panel and where? What you are trying to explain makes no sense other than the fact that the lights don't work.

If you truly have voltage to your head lights, then your fuse panel, as well as your switch would have to be good, unless BUBA wired around them.

I will try to explain this better. Just spent some more 'quality' time with it. Looking at the wiring schematics, I have checked the courtesy clock fuse which should be hot at all times.... nothing. So I backed up to the starter.. I have three hot wires going back into the main harness there. One to the electric radiator fan and two into the firewall block. Based on that I assume one hot wire going into the firewall goes to the headlights, while the other ?? But what really I have a hard time understanding. Headlights work.. running lights.. nil.. I am at a huge loss and don't know where to start next. I really have not done anything to cause this and it was running fine when I parked it two years ago.
Thanks

Looking at the schematics it seems as though if I could figure out why there is no power to the fuse panel then things are solved. Easier said then done for my electrical illiterate self..

I haven't worked on an 80 vintage Vette, but most chevrolets share some common things. If memory serves me, there are at least two major hot wires going into the cockpit. One goes to the headlight switch, the other goes to feed the fuse panel. Off the top of my head I can't remember where the park lights get there power. I will look at some schematics I have at home, and see if I can figure some different things to look for.

Here is another revelation. Not sure right wrong or what but the harness to the starter is a six wire clip. There are only five wires coming from the starter. I ran a fused jumper to the missing spot and poof.. power to the fuse panel. Now.. I did take the starter harness off and placed new loom on it but can NEVER remember leaving out that sixth wire. Did I remind you how much I hate electrical problems!?!?!??!
Thanks for everyones input
