Can anyone walk me through what to buy? I'm looking for specifics on AN fittings and hose from the stock pump to a new cartridge replaceable filter (advise?) to a Holley 670 Street Avenger.
Also, when I take off the old flare fitting from the pump, how do I keep the gas from flowing while I work?
adapter fittings for the pump (inverted flare to -6 an) are available from earls, aeroquip, russel.. and maybe others. They're available in 2 sizes, check what size the port on your pump is. The cleanest way IMO is to use a 90deg -6AN swivel fitting to aim the line up, then when near the plane of the manifold use another 90deg. swivel to connect to a cartridge filter (available from many sources), and then a striaght fitting to the carb with the necessary fuel lines, they're carb specific.
You could alos use the Fram HPG-1 filter, it has a replacable filter cartridge too and 1/4 npt ports on it, you can screw in npt to an adapters. The HPG 1 is best mounted on the inner fender or firewall. Here's my truck engine with a HPG-1 filter on the frame rail:
When you remove the old fitting from the pump only a tiny amount of gass will flow out. The pump won't pump anything with the engine not running. DO disconnect the battery.
