Default Life was so much simpler then

I've been spending some time over at the C4 forum trying to learn more about those cars since I plan on buying one in the spring. (no, I don't intend to sell the shark).

As we all know, the C3 (as well as the C1's and C2's before it) were faiirly simple machines; probably the highest tech item put in any of them was the fiber optic light monitors :D The cars were pretty basic and one could drive across country knowing that if anything broke almost any shade tree mechanic with a decent set of hand tools could fix it. The C4 and C5 on the other hand not only require many specialized tools but a degree in computer engineering would probably come in handy.

This simplicity seems to extend to the Corvette Forum as well. The C1/C2 and the C3 forums have three categories: General Discussion, Parts FS/WTB and Cars FS/WTB. Very simple. But for those of you who haven't ventured into the other forums they not only have "our" three categories there is also Tech/ Performance, ZR1 (or Z06), Scan and Tune, and Forced Induction/ Nitrous. God only knows what the C6 will bring.

This is not meant as a putdown of any generation Corvette, just a general observation.

Some of the guys here may take issue with "life is simpler" if they have fiber optics and/or the @#$% wiper doors. Sometimes GM goofed big-time.....

Ya know, another thing that crossed my mind is the fact that these cars, as they get older, require a lot of maintenance, restoration, repair etc. My god, I have a "to do", or "to fix" list a mile long for my '79, and every time I knock off a repair, a new issue arises to replace it. The list will always be part of ownership. Fortunately, for the C3s and the pre C3s, it's all low tech. Can you imagine when the C4s and C5s reach 25, 30, 40 years old? With their "D.I.C."s , hydro-magnetic suspensions, and all the Cadillac-esque gadgetry, those cars will be REAL nightmares in their latter years.

I have both. And, yes, they are a pain and unique to the Corvette, but at least I can drive my car if they don't work - try that with an optispark. Talk about GM goofing big time, what about putting a component that can't get wet under the water pump. :banghead:
