I am looking for some help on finding the wire connector for the Auxiliary Cooling Fan. This is the wire that plugs into engine temperature switch on the right side of the block. I was having some overheating problems and I found that the connector was unplugged and melted. I guess it had been hitting the manifold. I checked most of the local parts store and checked several places on the Web but no luck. Does anyone know where I could find one or a way to "rig" it. I tried doing that, but the fan just stayed on all the time once the engine reached the required temperature. :banghead: Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
The fan is supposed to stay on when it reaches the temp the switch is set for. I'm confused about what part you "rigged" was it the connector of the fan to the temperature switch? If this is the case then the type of connector doesn't really make much difference. If it is the temperature switch is bad and you know the temp it is supposed to kick the fan on at, then go to NAPA and ask them to look through their book of different temp switches.
If you want you can find other parts try Zip Corvette, go the Corvette Mall and click over to Restoration parts. The part # for the switch is ES-385. Give Zip a call and see if they can provide any other parts you might need.
For used parts contact Gary Gruhala at http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/GruhalaEnterprises Call Gary up and tell him what you have, he'll help you out and if he has a good used part, he'll let you have it at a very fair price.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. Sorry I didn't make it clear, but it was the connector to the switch, not the fan. When I said the fan would stay on, I meant after the car is turned off. I thought that maybe it would continue to run after I shut off the engine (because of the temp), but believe it or not I actually waited over an hour before I pulled the wires off the switch. I did check out Zip and if they have it, they sure make it hard to find. I will try Gary next week and see what he has. Thanks again for the help
The GM switch turned the fan on at 238F. That's pulling a trailer with the A/C on in July temps. Your overheating problems probably are elsewhere in the cooling system.
