Hey folks, well I'm tired of my drivers seat not folding down, so I figured I would ask for some help. My passenger seat folds down fine, but my drivers seat sticks or something. It wiggles at the joints, like it wants to fold down, but it won't. Is there a latch or a button that I need to push on it or something?
Car shouldn't have a release button, if it's an 81 we're talking about. Those seats just fold forward. Maybe there's something stuck in the joint or perhaps it's frozen...
There's actually a counter weight in the seat hinge that will fly forward if the car stops abrubtly. That way it locks up the seat so it doesn't fly forward with you if you get in an accident . . . the seat belts work the same way. I had that problem with one of my seats where it wouldn't fold down so I took the mechanism apart and found out that one of the plastic housings holding one of the weights was cracked and so the weight was drooping into the lock mode. A little epoxy fixed it up real quick.
Same problem with my seats, you need to remove the hinge covers to lift the inertia weight up to fold the seat done.Best the remove them & repoxy back into there plactic housings.
