Default Valve cover gaskets

today I finished the interior rehab and started on the engine bay. Before even tuning the carb/ distributor I decided to get rid of those hideous M/T orange valve covers off. I got side tracked buffing out the billet wire looms and degreasing the 8mm Taylor wires, no not Mallory as I thought, nice wires real nice but I digress. The new chrome covers and FELPOR 1603 cork, poly mix (cork with blue striped on one side call for putting fast drying sealant on the valve cover side. I do not want sealant to sqeeze out the bolt holes or side of the cover when torqing I have never used sealant and have never had a leak however if I assume the issue is not on the head side but the seal between the smooth chome finish and gasket. how about a thin thin layer. Or just for go the sealant all together.

Again another stupid question post compliments of Cali.

I use a thin coat of Permatex 2 on the valve cover side. The gasket stays attached to the valve cover when you install it. If you have to remove the valve cover in the future, the gasket is still attached to the valve cover and can be reused.
