I am supposed to have carb # 7040213 on my car (Late '70, 350, 4 spd), but I have carb # 7042114 (1972, 350, auto) installed.
Should I have any concerns about the performance of this carb, compared to stock?
I have always had choke operation problems that I can fix, then something else will go wrong with it. Now, the fast idle cannot be set by pressing the gas pedal. I have to remove the air cleaner and do it manually.
The only difference between the two carbs should be in the jetting/rods- the rest is in the condition of the carb.
You may want to consider getting it professionally rebuilt, or since the carb isn't matching numbers anyways, order a new one from recarbco or the like.
I just picked up a recarbco quadrajet for my 78 and they do a GREAT job. Be sure to give them the # of the original carb for the car, and who knows, maybe they'll even have a matching # core in their supply.
