While the tires are great, I've found that everyone wants to double or triple their prices to mount tires that they themselves don't sell. Keep this in mind. The extra you pay to have them mounted may offset your savings.
The Tire Rack is great! Their people are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. This hasn't always been my experience with the local guys. Too many shops are just not passionate about cars. I just ordered a set of Yokohama AVS ES100's for my Miata. Had them drop shipped to a local guy that is passionate about cars. He just doesn't have the selection in stock. He actually likes the drop ship arrangement. He gets to provide his excellent service and the customer gets the tires they like.
ettev: I could have had my tires mounted at Sam's Club but thought better of that. I called the Chevy dealer where I bought the Blazer and they did it at a reasonable price. BTW: Have a Yuengling on me!
I like the tire rack also. Besides the great website the service is outstanding. I ordered a set of 17" tires for a friends 73 vette from them. I placed the order online and 15 minutes later a friendly guy from tire rack called me to confirm that I really wanted 17's since 15's were stock. I like that they took the time to make sure I didn't fat finger. They then shipped same day.
I know about some tire shops getting pissy about mounting tires they didn't sell. I guess they rather not have any business than some??? Doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know... Kayffmann tire refused to mount them at all for "liability reasons". Too bad as I need new tires for my beater and they just got taken off my list. Discount tire quoted me $160 for mounting and balancing! They're off the list. NTB charged my $75 and did a good job. That's where I'll go with my other cars from now on.

Re: TIRE"S from Tire Rack (comp)
I've gotten several sets of tires from them.
Some people mentioned to use them to get better prices from locals. I was never able to get the locals to come close enough to Tire Rack prices to make it worthwhile.
No problems with them. Last order took 4 days to arrive when I paid for two day shipping. I checked my tracking and they came via Hawaii (FedEx mis-routed). I emailed Track-rack asked forthe diference in shipping cost between 2 day and 4 day and they refunded the total shipping charges. All the other purchases I had made had gone without any problems.
I'm glad to hear all the positive comments. I just ordered 2 tires to replace the rear ones and I save 140$ can. over the local distributor. When the canadian dollar goes up, the locals don't bring down their prices.
This summer I put a set of Firestone Indy 500's on my daily driver. "America's Great Tire Co." ordered and installed them for only $6 more than tire rack would have been if I bought from Tire Rack and had them installed locally. Not worth the hassle. The info Tire Rack provides is outstanding.
