I have a coolant loss. It seems that it's finding it's way into the heads through the intake manifold ( edelbrock ) somehow. Has any one had simular situations with fluid loss? Could it be the chrome intake manifold bolts ? Perhaps a problem with the cross over blockoff. 350C.I.D. 4bbl. spreadbore.
I have retorqued the bolts I have not checked the gaskets, they appear to be of the metal reinforced type. Somehow those chrome bolts just don't set right with me, maybe a set of stock bolts would be better. I need to do something.... Cold weather is getting close around here.
you can try, but i never had prob. with cro. bolts.. you may want to back them out and put thead sealer on them and re-install, drain system some,
clean bolts and threads good(brake clean etc.) torque in right order, give sealer the time to cure,
If the leaks are really small you might get by with some coolant system sealer. I've been told every one of these cars left the factory with Bar's Leaks tablets in the system.
before i use stop-leak i try a low pressure rad. cap (7-9lbs) that can keep alot
of people going till better repair. on the stop leak i like to drain and flush anti-
freeze out seals much better with water only, if leak stoped i re-fill with normal mix. i save in old jugs to re-use if still good, this is hard to do if it's
freezing out, i've had the low pressure cap work along time for people IF they
will open the hood and check fluids often.
In all seriouness, fix the problem quick. Coolant into the cylinders will waste the engine quick. Don't trust the stop leak with this type of problem.
Take off the intake, clean the heads and the intake and check for cracks. Use the correct FlePro or Victor Renz or Mr. Gasket Ultra Seal gasket set. Cement the gasket to the head with Edelbrock Gaskacinch or Permatex gasket sealer. Use a light coat of RTV smeared on the gasket side water jacket outlets. Toss the rubber rails and use a 1/4": bead of RTV on the ends of the block. Align the intake and torque to specs in the right pattern, let sit ovenight and retorque.
If the seepage does not stop then you most likely have a head gasket problem and teardown is needed. The intake is the quickest.
Use Permatex Copper on the end valleys rather than the rubber gaskets. Skin lightly with the same around the coolant passages. And at the cross-over if you wish. Use Fel-Pro gaskets (important, they are pre-set with sealant). Use Permatex 2 on the shaft of each intake bolt. Torque to 35 sequentially as per GM recommendations. Run up to operating temp. Let sit for 24 hours and then re-torque sequentially as per GM recommendations again.
