I have a 79 with a 350 motor in it. I have been looking at Dynomax and Headman ceramic coated headers. Are there advantages to the design- shape of the headers either through performance or fitting well in a car with A/C ect? What type of headers would you buy? I have looked at Jegs and summit's web sites, are there other sites with lower prices? Thanks in advance? :conehead
Many are happy with Dynomax. I have Hookers. They were easy to install and look cool. Make sure you get the grade 8 bolts WITH SPECIAL SMALL HEAD...or at least allen heads...
Here are the pics you requested. I currently have my AC Compressor off so the view is a little better than usual.
This is the drivers side and was the easiest to install:
This is the passengers side and was a little harder for some reason:
The Stage 8 Locking Bolts are sold by both Jegs and Summit. They are designed not to loosen and mine have not so far. An E-clip keeps them in place.
Bought mine from Jegs (868--8911) $37.99. See p.63 in the latest catalog.
The Dynomax are good headers, and be sure to use the dead aluminum header gaskets, I had a set on my 68 and I never had to tighten them or worry about a leak in two years. :chevy
Not sure if this Dynomax A/C bracket works with your '79 but it was great for my '69 install. It should work for you.
Designed for Chevy small blocks
Chevrolet: 262-400 with headers, air conditioning compressor mounting bracket
Dynomax designed this bracket specifically for Chevrolet small block applications with factory-installed air conditioning compressors that bolt to the exhaust manifold. This bracket takes the place of the factory piece when using headers
Another happy dynomax coated user, I think $ for $ they are the best value for stock to medium modified sb's. Once you get over 450 or so hp you might look at a better header with larger primaries.
I have Hooker super comps on my 78. They much were easier to put in than I had figured they would be. Worked from underneath with car on jackstands and they went right up and in place.
The only PITA (kind of) was the AC compressor. Had to make a stand off that took a bit of a trial and error to get just the right lenght.
If you have a 4sp as I do you'll have to remoce the clutch cross shaft which is easy.
All in all, the header project was one the few projects that turned out easier than I had expected :smash:
Just for giggles, I did just that. 'Dynomax Headers' in the topic content, searched the archived topics in the C3 Section. Came up with 40 posts.

Prolly should be a sticky to make sure people are aware of the search funtion and how to use it. Once a seach is done then if a person still has questions they can post specific ones to round out their information gathering.
