Who has a VBP traction bar? do you like it? and why will it not work on a 78-79 vette? Can I just get a 80-82 cover and cut of the arms? I really would like to install this piece it claims it stops rear end twisting witch is precisely what happened to my rear. My pass side u joint is extremely close to the floor. If I bring a passenger along It actually taps on the floor very lightly. Thanks in advance for any info John
I don't have it and wasn't even aware a traction bar existed for the Vette. However, I did locate a suspension mod for the Vette that allows you to drag race without spending a fortune modding the rear end:
Thanks Dep but that's not exactly what I need. I need the Vett Brakes Products type of set up. They claim it stops the rear diff from moving like mine did.
I bought one, unused, from a Forum member but have never installed it on my '79. The Vette is up on jack stands right now, so I could drag out the bar and try to answer some questions, if that would help.
It sez in the catalog that it dose not fit 78 and 79 I am not sure why. If you could maybe slide under there and maybe see why I would really really appreciate it. Thanks
WESCH: Looks like the same one you have, only chromed :)
Mike: Does your Vette make over 500RWHP? Just curious, as the ones I've seen at the dragstrip making that kind of power did NOT have stock rear setups.
The stock C2 had a COMPLETELY different rear suspension that the stock C3.
Stock C2 engine did not put out anywhere near 500HP and they had a conventional sold rear end. L88s weren't really built for drag racing and not many were left in stock condition and raced that way. Blown u-joints were faily common on C3 cars, though, if there was enough horspower and traction.
If the poster ISN'T making 500+ horsepower then why bring it up????

I am using the rear end locator kit from Guldstrand that prevents the differential from twisting, it solid mounts the diff using aluminum plates.
I am going to be running 10" slicks this spring and will be using the DragVette setup. I may consider this as well. I bought the kit from Redvetracer (spelling?) on the forum.
Also...what kind of shape is your carrier bushing in? If its deteriorated or missing it will raise the front of the diff nearly an inch and this could be part of the problem. Also, how do the rubber mounts look on the diff crossmember?...
My front snubber is new (Polly) My problem is my rear twisted and the traction bar is suppose to stop this from happening. But for some reason it doesn't fit 78-79. My question is why? What do I have to do to make it fit? As far as horse power I am not far from that number. What makes it worse is my 3.80 gear and stock converter. Its like pulling a 18 wheeler. To spite the dead gear and stock converter I ran a 12.80. I am installing 3.70 a 4L80E tranny with 3000 converter and a 200 NOS. So it only going to get worse this is why I want to install this traction bar or something that will fix this problem. VETDRMS mentioned something interesting I would like to see that product. Thanks for the interest any advice is welcome

I think C2s 63-67 have independent rears, similar to 68-79 style?
I agree with the post that if the stock set-up is corrected, then the differential should be back to original position. Sounds like something has been torqued out of place. Fix what you have first, then apply a traction bar if possible.
If everything is in perfect condition and lined up and you are still having problems, you might want to consider that DragVette setup. They custom-tailor it to your exact needs.
