I really would like to straighten out the diff and make it so it don't happen again. That is why I want to use the traction bar. It will stop this from happening again. Then I would like to install a 6 link kit this will take all the lateral stress off the joints and yokes. This kit comes with a loop also. So what it comes down to is The traction bar will support the diff the 6 link will support the trailing arms and keep the suspension supported if I break a u joint. What I really need to find out is why the traction bar fits every c3 except 78-79. Or if there is a better way to support the rear.

The bolt sizes for the spring mount are not the same for the '78 - '79 as the earlier models. You'll have to call VB&P to verify this but I think that if you switch to the heavy duty rear cover you can mount the traction bar.
