Default Oil Pressure Sender - Puzzling?

I'm rebuilding a '75 350. When I took the engine out and apart, the oil pressure sender was located on the driver's side of the block. The sender is composed of a brass pipe with threads on one end and an 11/16's nut on the other. Into that screws the small canister-looking sender. Question: Which hole in the block does the sender screw into? There is one threaded hole on the block near the dipstick and another on the block above where the oil filter mounts? I can't get the brass pipe to thread back into either. I figured I would go ahead and oil prime the engine and see which hole oil came out. When I started the drill to prime the oil pump, oil shot out of a threaded hole at the top back of the block behind the manifold. I looked in a Haynes manual and the hole behind the manifold is the location of later year oil senders. I plugged this with a bolt and NO oil came from either hole on the block where the original oil sender was located. I am very puzzled. This is the block that came out of the car. I verified the VIN stamp. I put a light over each of the holes in the side of the block and I can't see where there is a hole to allow oil to manipulate a sender. I KNOW I screwed the oil sender out of the side of the block when I took the engine out a month ago. Help!
Lesson number one: photograph everything one takes off an engine and where it is located. I have learned my lesson! Thanks for any help. I have bumped my head on the lift a few times this week, but not enough to rattle my brain this much!

I don't know about a 72, but just replaced my oil pressure sender and it was at the driver side back of the block. Same square brass fitting. Right to the left of the distributor.

Hope this helps.

It should be right above the oil filter and the sending unit screws into that hole. The hole at the rear of the manifold is also a direct source to the oil galleries, however that was and has always been dedicated for cars with direct oil pressure guages. It should have a small 7/16 I think plug that seals it shut. My 79 has the oil pressure sending unit right above the oil filter.

Are you saying that you stripped the threads on this fitting?
