I am very happy with my High Energy 268. Others will recommend the XE line, and 262 grind for some more low end power. I chose mine bcause I got it for $60 including springs and a new coil! If you switch to better heads, increasing compression, higher durations will take advantage of the flow. Until then, don't go higher than 268.

The 268 dropped my 1/4 time from 15.5 to 14.7. You may do better with 2 1/2" pipes.

Neil, some of it depends on what transmission, ratio rear end and compression ratio you have. For an example if you have a 3.08 rear end, and a TH350 automatic with a stock Torque convertor, a high lift, long duration cam that makes most of its horsepower and torque at high rpms, won't work well in a car setup like this.
A car setup as I described above would probably perform best with a cam that makes hp and torque at lower rpms. Something along the lines of the Comp XE256 or XE262. Another couple of pretty good cams are the Crane 260H and Crane 266H, these Crane cams are work with cars that have lower compression ratios. If your car has standard pistons and heads for a 77 then your compression is probably just right for one of the Crane Cams.
If you have a 4 speed and a lower ratio rearend then a beefier cam can be used, but be careful to get a cam that is designed for your car's compression ratio, you want a cam that will enhance the compression ratio of your car by having the right amount of lift, duration and lobe seperation.
Good Luck!

tanks for that guys,
smokehouse, it has got a 3.08 rear and TH350,
i plan on changing it to a 3.70 but not for a good few months,
think i'll go with a 260H either crane or comp cams,
thanks,
neil
