Default 1979 Vortec 350

I am in the process of rebuilding the 350 with vortec head and maniford and I have a few issues. First of all is the new style Valve covers. I would really like to keep corvette valve covers but I guess its not 100% nessassary. What years came with the center bolt patterns on vortec heads? Or what is a good aftermarket valve cover with the center bolt pattern? The second issue is the new vortec manifold is a little higher then the stock one. What carb and air cleaner will fit with the little space under the hood?

Thanks for the help

Brian

1. I saw a kit that will let you run standard bolt pattern covers on a centerbolt head simple rail system summit or scoggin dickey i think

2. a drop base cleaner should work

Hi,

I put the Edelbrock Performer and the original air cleaner. I just had to bend it a little to make it lower.

For the valve cover, I wanted to keep my original one so a machine shop drilled 4 hole and welded inserts. It's not costly compare to the adaptor that are sold at around 150$ if I remember correctly and you eliminate a chance of oil leak (2 gasket per side with the adaptor).

Here's a picture:

Just went throught the same thing with my 78. Wound up using a center bolt chrome plated alluminum with bowtie and K&N oval filter, nice setup. The Valve cover adapters are available from PacePerformance for $154.00 That's why I bought new covers. Their number is 1-888-748-4670 Part Number for the kit is 24502540.
