Default BASE TIMING

I am experiencing crank no start woes. I have attempted to start my vette and it will crank but not start. I have attempted to bump the engine until the harmonic balancer mark is on 0. After several attempts at this I finally got the balancer mark to 0. I removed the valve cover on the left bank and the valves on #1 were closed. I then removed the distributor cap to see where the rotor was pointing. It was pointing 180 degrees from the #1 plug wire. Could this mean that #6 is firing instead? How can I correct this? The distributor was fully seated. This distributor is new and I have not marked the body where the rotor should be pointing. Is setting base timing a two
man operation? Is there any one in the Northern, VA who can give me a hand? I live in Woodbridge. and just a little :mad :mad

make sure the balencer is at top dead center after the intake valve opens and before the exhaust opens

Your distributor has been installed 180º off and is firing on the exhaust cycle instead of compression. Remove the distributor, make a mark on the distributor that aligns with the #1 position on the cap, do just like you did before to determine TDC on the compression stroke, rotate the engine a little more until the the timing marks align at about the 10º mark, reinstall the distributor so that the rotor is pointing exactly at the #1 position.
