Default Engine swap questions

Got a friend with a 1976 C3.
He just purchased a used LT-1 motor (1992-1996) and wants to install it in his car.
Not sure about the electronic ignition, computer, etc. Is this a difficult swap?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It all depends on your friends mechanical and electrical abilities. There are a lot of people that have done this swap on the forum. He will need to install an electric fuel pump, he can use the existing ignition harness, but will have to install a computer and the associated wiring for the electronics. There is a company in Marine City (Howell Engineering) that will build a computer and harness necessary for the conversion. The coolant system on the LT-1 engine is different than what is currently on the car, (not a big deal). It uses reverse flow cooling. Your friend might run into problems with the power steering pump as it uses an external reservoir (I think). When I did my swap I used a motor that was for a 92 Camaro and I purchased a serpentine belt conversion kit from Street and Performance in Arkansas. It included an A/C compressor, alternator, power steering pump and reservoir. Street and Performance can also provide a lot of parts such as the computer and harness necessary for this swap. It is not an inexpensive project. I would be concerned about the condition of the motor, does he know it runs and runs well. It would be a shame to do all of the work and expense necessaary to get the car running only to have a poor running motor. Roger L. Gibbons
