I recently acquired a '75 shark and am beginning the restoration process. The first thing it needs to be driveable is a brake system rebuild. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me.... Down the road I'd like to get some nice cross drilled rotors and all that good stuff, but first I need to get everything else replaced. calipers, master cylinder, etc.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: '75 Brakes question (m1k3)
Mike, welcome to the world of Vettes....sometimes a money pit... but well worth it!
I would recomment a complete kit from Van Steel, Corvette Central, etc, rebuilt SS calipers, pads, new master cylinder, SS rear lines for the trailing arms, NEW SS braided flex lines, should be about $400. If you add slotted rotors add another $400. If you go with parts store rotors figure $250 for 4.
Like anything the more you bundle into a kit the cheaper it is!!!
Good Luck

For street use you don't need fancy drilled rotors. If you race or autocross or just like to drop the pedal to the floor and lock them up then ok you might need them.
If the car has been sitting a while then you should go through it carefully. A brake kit is good. I've used the Muskegon complete kit and was happy with it.
Change the hoses, calipers, and brake fluid at the least. Probably the M/C too if the system is contaminated. CHECK the runout before you buy new rotors.
Good luck 75 's are cool cars.

What you should do first is check in the archives by doing a search. There is plenty of brake info there. Check on http://www.corvettefaq.com too
I'm sure any of the kits offered by the known suppliers are good and many probably get them from a common source. I used the Muskegon Super kit last time I needed a system. It's in their current catalog for $359 + core charges. It comes with a new M/C,brake fluid, pads everything except the installer. I used them for all my brake needs the past 15 years without any major problems. You can chceck out their site at http://www.muskegonbrake.com
Before buying anything, know which direction you plan on going.
Good luck,
Gary
