Want to install hooker chrome headers and side pipes with the turbo baffles. I would like some opinions good or bad. Do they keep the car cooler in the summer? I seems like they would. I see allot of you guys have them they look great. I don't mind if there noisy. How do you guys think they would look on my car. Be honest you wont hurt my feelings.

Re: Side pipes (78 Vette)
I like my pipes. I can't comment about the heat change, since I installed thermal barrier on the floors about the same time that I installed the pipes. The car get the looks at the local car shows and her sound with the STS baffles does draw attention too. I'm most certain the car dropped a few pounds. The stock system had the big cans on the back and the stock exhaust manifold were heavy too.
Cool deal I thought they might. Hey you go to the track allot is there a big difference with them open and closed? what baffles do you use? Thanks for any info

Got to agree about the burns. I think my sister still has a scar from mine. It becomes second nature to remind others and use care yourself but every once in a while you forget and get reminded the hard way.
Go ahead and put them on your car. They'll look great. As for the burns you'll only burn your leg once and you'll never make that mistake again! :auto:
I had them on for about 10 years on my 75. Did notice more heat when I went back to original exhaust. I do miss the sound, and it definitely ran better with the side exhaust.

I run mine open all the time.. Mufflers or baffles cost too much horsepower.. The STS baffles cost you anywhere from 15 - 20 HP capped and less than 10 HP if uncapped.. Different mufflers can cost you as much as 50+++ HP   especially the Hooker Reverse flow mufflers...
Tks for the post. I have a 75 vert and it does get hot inside the car.I didnt know if going with side pipes will help with the heat?, (wasnt sure if the majority of the heat came from the exhaust or the Firewall?), Im almost done installing Hooker sidepipes. (not the header type), I tnk its taking me so long because I cant stop drulling at the new look :D , I recomend them to everyone, really makes the car look like its going Fassst when sitting still... :D ... I have made the cuts into the fiberglass, but am still thinking about the side trim... this is my idea?, im going to try to make a slim cardboard template and make my trial cuts there. then transfer it onto the side trim and using a dremil tool make my cuts slowely... and other sugestions????, :seeya save the wave
I love sidepipes, on other ppl's vette though. Ran the '69 style on mine with covers and just didn't like the noise at ear level - but what is noise for some is music to others. I am much happier with my true duals into Ultraflows for both sound and performance. Chrome sidepipes will look very very  on your vette and that stinger hood is calling out for them as well.
This forum really kicks but its nice to get unbiased opinions from true corvette people. And not a sales person. Grand Sport thanks for the info it seems the spirals are the way to go. But knowing me I probably will end up driving around with open pipes :D . I hate to waste H.P
