It's been raining the past two days, but was still able to play a bit with the G Tech in the Z. It is able to read RPM's without wires, amazingly accurate. It has a shift light you can program to whatever rpm you want. Using a 6900 shift point, the G Tech starts lighting the 1st of 4 lights at 6400rpm. Perfect shift point to avoid the rev limiter if I shift on this first light. There is no mistaking this light even in daylight. The wheel hop I got on my 1-2 and 2-3 shifts suggests my shocks need replacing with something a bit stiffer. But it is sure nice not to have to compensate for tach lag or attempt to read the little white shift light on the HUD.
Using a 3400 total vehicle weight showed a 344hp max in 2nd gear once everything hooked up. This is very close to the 350rwhp I measured on the chassis dyno. I hope to get the car weighed so that I can use a more accurate number, but I think I must be pretty close.
I used mine a lot when I had the 427 in it and it was very accurate. I also tried it at the track in the C-4 and it was within .03 or so over 5 runs compared to track ET slips. That's pretty decent for something stuck on the windshield!
The 427 chassis dyno'd at 423 RWHP and the G-tech showed 417, once again pretty close!
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Re: G Tech Pro for Christmas! (427Hotrod)
I must be doing something wrong or mine doesn't work properly. I bought it brand new. Mine is consistently 100HP below my chassis dyno numbers. How are you guys doing it ?
BTW 344HP on the GTech is probably bang on if you got 350HP on a chassis dyno. The chassis dyno numbers are always going to be a little higher as there is no resistance from the air.
geez I forgot I had one, last time I used it was with MotorHead to check and see if his was working properly - scarey day when I saw your vette fly by then cut out just before that big curve. I think mine read out either 283 or 287 before we quit.

Obviously this is the new/improved/upgrade model. How the heck does it do that? I guess the same way a dwell meter reads rpm when attached to the coil, but this thing is plugged into the cigarette lighter.... can somebody explain this? (pls speak very slowly... ) MJ

I think it has a microphone that reads my lips while I lip sync to the engine. The inside of my windshield has always gotten dirtier faster than the outside.
The other possibility may be that it can detect the interference you can hear in your radio if you have a bad set of plug cables or you don't use resistor spark plugs. It asks you to hold 4000rpm and push the button, then it asks for you to hold 2000 rpm and push the button. This allows it to know whether you have a 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 cylinders.
The lighter the weight you list for the car, the lower the hp reading will be. I used 3400 pounds for the Z. 3118 for the car plus 175 for me plus 100 pounds for gas.
