this is usually the worst part, reversing 36 years of neglect and Bubba's "quick fix's". I had a bitch of a time getting a grip on the rear socket on the Harrison overfill bottle mount, damn near impossible but it's looking good.
This is what I have to compare to, my last ride God rest her sole.
Well anyway here's how far I got.
These shined up real nice.
The goal is to grind/ polish that tank out to the same shine you see on the billet pulley or the intake on the Cali-1 picture above. I got all the blocked taped off and on the 3rd coat of Chevy orange. Should complete by Wednesday minus the headers, ordering some ceramic coated Hookers later this week.

Re: Started Cali 2 engine detail (1971Ultra)
Those aluminum fill tanks polish up quite nicely. I worked mine up pretty good when I first installed it. You will have that car will be looking great in no time.
Looks great David. I have not figured out why GM designed the earlier radiator set-ups with the fill tank on the fender wall and no outlet that we are all used to on the radiator itself. My '71 has the same set-up.

Yeah I found that if I fill the tank up past one half the expansion results in the top relieving out the cap and all over the engine. I prefer the simple hose coming right off the radiator and down to a small billet overflow such as one can find thru Summit Racing, very simple and does not take up compartment room. But's see how nice the tank comes out.
I spent the last few days detailing my '71 as I have it for sale as you probably know. I'm one of those who will not sell a car to someone without taking my time to do the things to make them glad they purchased it. I even went as far as putting in new spark plugs that were only 300 miles old. Actually.... I only did it because I wanted assurances in my own mind that the carb I installed was burning them right. They all looked great.... even the one I broke. :yesnod:
