I have two differant kinds of bearing supports on my 69? One has a flat spot on the end of the shock support portion and the inside of the bearing support has a cone appearance. The other one has round ends and the inside is more hollowed out where the bearing spacers go? Any idea which is which? And is one better than the other or will they both work?
I thought it was the other way? When I rebuilt the rear bearings on my 69 I had one support that was hollowed out for grease to sit and one that was a straight bore. If I recall the straight bore was from a '65 someone had changed in the past?
Try the NCRS board I'm sure they can tell the difference between the housing years. Some have webbing cast into them for added strength too.

Gary, Did you re-use them both or try to find another hollowed out one? I can see where the hollowed out one is a better design. Holds the grease better. Plus the straight one was super hard to get out.
I think that I am correct, but I see so many they run together sometimes. I pay little attention as they are completely interchangable. The hollowed out ones may hold more grease, but if you think about it the reservoir is below the level of the bearing. So if the bearing was to get a little dry, the reservoir would do no good. On the other style the sides are in line with the bearing and thus have a better chance of getting some lubrication to a dry bearing. This might not save a bearing, but might avert a disaster.
