Default Engine Code On a 69 Convertible

i have a 69 i bought thats pretty modified, one of the mods is the engine. ive concluded its got 79 corvette heads(462624) and the casting number is 14016379 which i think indicates its from 77-79. the stamp on the front of the engine tho, says v1199800 or perhaps "OO" at the end(i dont know if its the letters or numbers, but they look kinda like squares with rounded edges, not very circular. my questions what does that number mean? im searching through the forum and not finding much help, i figured they were some kind of suffix code but i cant find any corvette with a "OO" suffix code. the original motor was a l46 350/350. thanks for your help!

Well, that would be a question to check out in the 1969 Corvette Registry: http://www.1969corvettes.com

Are the last 5 digits of your VIN 11998? If so, it could be the original engine. The last two *might* be GD.

Can you get a picture? If it is GD, I could really use some more details about your car to add info to the website.

the stamp on the front of the engine tho, says v1199800 :
Those numbers don't make sense V= flint mi plant, 11 = Nov. , 99 = ????? this should be the day of the month 1-31.

So what you probably have is a block that has been decked and the machine shop stamps it with there stock number or code (every shop would be different). Let me ask you this, on the stamp pad can you see swirl marks from being machined??? If you can then the block has been decked. You can check on the back flange (behind the dist where the bellhousing bolts to block) and on one side will be some large cast numbers, those are the casting numbers. From those you can tell the approx. vintage and what size block you have. On the other side is some very small cast numbers and letter, these are the casting date. If you find these and post them you can find out if at least you have the correct vintage and size engine for your car.

as of current i have these numbers i found on the engine or under the valve covers: the back of the engine(casting number i believe) is 14016379, the nummber in the front of the engine is v1199800(im positve its 00 or DD or something but its not gd as someone mentioned) under the valve covers i found , k14 and above it 462624. as for another number opposite the casting number( on the passenger side) i found something that seems to be e278 but it is very hard to be sure. thanks for your help

I only have books that go back to 1975, and the casting numbers you posted were in none of those books. I also noticed that the casting numbers are much higher than thosed used up to 1975, idicating that it is a newer block. On the heads, one head k14= Nov. 1 (1984?) the other e278= May 27 (1978 or 1988). Without having newer books I couldn't tell you what year for sure. I would be positive these are not an original 1969 block, or heads. The other numbers stamped in the stamp pad are probably machine shop rebuild numbers, stamped in after the block was decked.

see www.mortec.com gives engine as 77-79 350 2 or 4 bolt and heads are 75-86 76cc chambers with 1.72/1.5, 1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valves

Hope this helps,
Joe

That number to me sounds like an over the counter GM replacement block or engine. The 260hp '71-'85 Direct Replacement GM Chevy 350 4 bolt main motor that I bought for my '75 has similar type numbers. Is you pad more an "elongated rectangle" or more "square shaped" The more square shaped pad appeared AFTER 1976.
