Well, I called HAl about their QA1 conversion kits and got some interesting answers.
Here's the deal;
Per a telephone conversation with tech support.
They are located about 20 miles from where I work, so it was a local call . The coil over conversion for the C3 was just developed. They have two spring rates, one for big blocks one for small blocks.
These kits are available through any QA1 distributor, Like MAS if you live in St Paul.
They 'plan' on developing more springs but make no promises of course.
The '69 they installed the prototype on had a ride height to the front fender lip of 26.5" On a stock smallblock ( iron heads intake etc ) and that is with the adjuster all the way down.
The kit is more expensive than their other GM conversions due to a different design ( I didn't make him iterate the design changes) but the other conversions are due for a (unspecified) price increase.
List price (MSRP) for the C3 conversion is $569.
For reference a QA1 conversion for a Camaro is $459 but I've seen it as low as $429 on sale, not sure of the MSRP
Another note.
Aparently HAL just bought Carrera (or is it Koni, dang now I forget) so they can better serve the circle track guys....Hmmmm
With the coil overs you can expect different variations of handling improvements. If you autox than you adjust them for a stiffer ride. If you just street drive than you can lower the amount of stiffness in the coilover and it will give you better handling.
Except you were making it sound like you developed them
It seemed clear to me that VanSteel was a distributor of these ...
a distributor that is clearly involved in our hobby, and not serving the entire car market. So much that they have tested the product on their own vette.
I'm not too interested in these yet ... but I'm curious.
It's obvious how the height adjusts, but it sounds like the spring rate is
adjustable. I think not. You're talking about adjusting the damping on the
shock, right Dan ? From your previous posts, it looks like a variable rate coil.
