OE Stopping Distance?
Anyone recall what the OE 60-0 stopping distance was for an early C3?

Car and driver june 1972, 60-0 stopping distances:
Base 350: 137 ft
LT-1: 116 ft
454: 122 ft
Don't know why the base engine and LT-1 had such different stopping distances?

Re: OE Stopping Distance? (zwede)
less weight in the front end maybe? More weight would be harder to stop? Probably relating to the bias of the brakes being offset by weight?

Re: OE Stopping Distance? (Tom73)
Were those numbers for auto or 4-speed cars? Did the (4-speed) driver use the engine to assist in braking?
As an aside, even if nothing else were changed, I would think that modern tires would help immensely in this regard.

Sure you do. Writers driving! Multiple tests are needed for some sort of accuracy.

True. Before ABS driver technique made a big difference. I saw an old road test on TV from the early 70's where their braking test consisted of locking up all 4 wheels! Hardly the shortest braking distance.

Zwede, Tom, Paul,
Thanks for the info. Did any of the test indicate whether the test cars were equipped with the HD brake option (J56?)?

Thanks Paul for the information, quite interesting to see that the heavier 79 had shorter stopping distance versus the lighter 80!?

I believe J56 was 1968 and 1969 only. So that was not a factor in the results I posted.

Re: OE Stopping Distance? (groovyjay)
You really have to take the stats with a grain of salt. It really depends on the driver and how many journalists from X magazines abused the car that day. The variables are many and difficult to control.

It could be that the 79 had the optional tires.
These numbers are almost entirely based on tires and driver skill. I doubt any of us would get these numbers today. Btw, has anyone checked their own car with a gtech or something?
