OK, so when it froze my freeze plugs were not the only thing that popped. My block split down both sides just under the heads. So much for a numbers matching car.
Does anyone in the dallas area have a spare block sitting around? This is my primary form of transportation, and I am cleaned out from Christmas. I checked with City Motor Supply and they want $430 (core included) for a short block, and $775 (core included) for a long block. This could not have happened at a worse time... if anyone in the dallas area can help, let me know ASAP. Thanks! :nopity

Re: Busted my block (Twin_Turbo)
Sorry about your block, I have had the same thing happen years ago, That broke me from the habit on anti-freeze. I have an '80 block and crank if it will help in TN.
TwinTurbo, how did that happen? It doesn't get cold where you live........ :lolg:
people here have used JB Weld to fix cracks in the block. Maybe you could give that a try and it would get you through until summer. At this point you have nothing to loose to give it a try.
I would drain as much water out of the radiator as you can then push as mush JB Weld as you can into the crack. Put it back together and maybe find a low pressure radiator cap and give it a whirl.
Even if someone gives you a block you are looking at a nice chunk of change to get it all put together. Those prices you quoted actually don't sound bad.
 Sorry to see your block cracked. I just bought a truck from TX & they said they'd put some extra coolant in there for me (-18 degrees last night  )
Twin_Turbo - when did you take a pic of my block??
1970 Stingray - Yah, it got cold enough for ONE night... go figure. We never need antifreeze down here, so I didn't even think about it. By the way, I have been meaning to tell you - you have one of the most badazz cars I have seen! I wish I was closer too... that engine sure would make the missus happy.
ProSouth - I wish you were closer too. That would get me out of this mess as well.
TurtleVette - that's actually not a bad idea... might try that just to get me through. Just call me BUBBA!
SmokedTires - thanks for the note. Texas trucks are always in great condition... hope you got a good deal!

Yeah, I don't think the block is worth crating and shipping. I was looking to get $100-$200 out of it and shipping might be $100 and I don't have the time to crate anything up. If a close Forum buddy needed it, we could work out a very, very sweet deal. :yesnod:
I have a 2-bolt 010 block with rotating assembly sitting here in the garage, but like it was said above, it's probably not worth shipping. It spun a rod bearing so the crank needs to be turned.
There must be someone local who could help you out.
JB Weld is one alternative that might get you through until you can put another engine together. A couple months ago I found a site that had some special welding rods that you could pretty easily weld cracks in cast iron.
Here's the link, look at their videos! Very impressive stuff, and you won't loose your numbers matching block! http://www.muggyweld.com/cast.html
junk the block, it's worthless now. If the force was enough to crack the outside who knows about cracks in other places?
As for that block, it's not mine it's from another guy here in the Netherlands but it actually does get pretty damn cold here sometimes, a few weeks ago it was freezing pretty good here.
