Default HELP!!!! 69 Project Windshield Frame Rotted :(

Well, I knew everything was going to smooth on this project. I pulled the trim today only to find the upper windshield frame in pretty sad shape on the top side under the trim. The side post are in ok shape with surface rust mostly. I was going to wire wheel and Por-15 the frame till I ran into this. What is the best sorce for a new frame and are there any papers or direction to fisx this. My metal / welding skills are not the best but I do have all the tools to do this. Just need some direction.

I ran into holes in my windshield frame too and welded patches into this area. YOu do not need a perfect fit , just weld the patches in and grind down and paint.

I replaced the top frame on my 70 t-top and both corner pieces. I bought mine from Chevrolet back in 87, wish the parts were available today from GM Restoration Parts. Anyway I think I read that a company in Michigan is or is going to reproduce the top windshield frame part. My damage was caused from water getting under the seal for the top of the windshield. This is where the worst cancer was. I new it leaked some, but not until I had the windshield removed for replacement did I know what the problem was. I would not let the new windshied be installed. I drove it home and started research on what I needed. I did it all myself except the welding. I used a tool that you put in a electric drill that cuts a little circular hole around the weld spots which let me then remove the parts.

We have done several replacements with used frames and also have patched so it definitely can be done....Salvage yards will sell used ones....hopefully it is so bad that you will loose your vin plate...try to have it cut above that on the drivers side...You will be looking at around $250 for a good used windshield frame....Call some yards.....You can email if you cant find any

Ordered up a used windshield frame today from a 69 coupe, spot weld cutter, POR-15 and correct Zinc paint. Now the fun begins. I plan on cutting just above the VIN plate on both sides. Any hints or tips on this process to keep me out of trouble?

Gene, I tried to email you but email address came back as bad.
