I am going to switch to 17 inch wheels (probably 9" wide). I have been unable to find tires wider than 255's unless they are lower profile and smaller diameter. I would like to stay with 27" diameter, I don't like the look of small diameter tires on these cars. So my question is this, can I use the stock trailing arms with 17' wheels (4" backspace), parking brake bracket relocated and 255/50-17's? I am interested in whether front tires will rub when turning, tires hitting the wheel wells on bumps etc. Should my spring be shortened (if so, how much)? Can I use the sway bar? Sorry for all the questions but I thought I would try to get them all answered at once. Oh, I have a 68 big block. Thanks
Re: Do you need offset arms with a 255/50-17? (BBShark)
I have 255X60X15's on all 4 corners on my '68 with no problems. Ijn fact I just placed an order for 275's on the rear and I have stock trailing arms.

The rears are fine. Use 17x8 rims with 255/50-17 tires. All factory pieces work (swaybar, spring, T-arms). 4"backspace.
Same wheels on front. You may or may not have to clearance the fender lips to avoid rubbing. Production tolerances. I had to clearence my 71. You probably will have the tires slightly rub the frame at full lock, but it's not really a problem. I didn't even know they were contacting until I noticed the shiny spot on the frame.
