does any body know where I can get a fan clutch that doesn't cost a 150.00 dollars on a 73. Went through flex-a-light and it didnt bolt up right. Housing to water pump to small in circumference. any one running a 16"electric by itself and not having overheating problams.
Or just go to Autozone. I just bought a clutch to use temporarily on my '69 big block for $35 (BTW, I'm looking for an original if somebody's got one they want to sell! :D).
was the hub on the clutch the same size as the one on the water pump.
Yes and no. The mounting flange/hub has slots rather than holes, so it's a "universal" fit for the bolt pattern. The center "pilot" hole in the flange has a removable brass bushing so that it can fit both 3/4" and 5/8" water pump shafts. Bottom line, it fits and operates just fine with my OEM fan.
I am swapping in an electric setup for my '74. I have an AC Delco '74 with AC fan clutch that I bought brand new 3 years ago, about 2000 miles, no problems. If you are interested email me, maybe we can work a deal. This thing is clean as a whistle, I've been showing the car mostly until this year.
The AutoZone price on a '74 fan clutch is about $80, I just checked today cuz I was going to try to sell this to JB, but this one won't fit his car.
