Default Need original 76 vacuum line help

It was suggested that I rename this request so here it is.

Hey one of you '76 owners, please pop the hood and tell me where the vacuum line from the water valve connects. I think it goes through the fire wall by the distributor. If so is there an plastic L connector? I have been trying to get a piece out of this line at the fire wall, but it keeps breaking off. Don't have much left to work with and don't want to try other methods until I'm sure that is where the line connects. Thanks for the help!

I've seen diagrams and cars too with this small(usually white?)vacuum line that goes to your water shut-off valve. If I'm remembering correctly, it goes directly to your heat/A/C thumbwheel controllers below your main console. I believe it goes the the left wheel, as this side is the side with the vacuum port "selector". Due to aging, I've seen many of these on cars just broke off and hanging there.

Paul, I believe you're correct about where the line goes. It looks like a difficult job replacing the line from the fire wall to the selector wheel. It appears that I'd have to move the heater core housing to get to the line inside the car. I'm hoping that I have vacuum from the wheel to the engine side of the fire wall and all I have to do is find a way to connect a new engine side vacuum line to the water valve.

I'm still unsure if the line goes thru the firewall by the distributor. where two other lines go thru. Also, is there an L plastic fitting at this junction? The old line has a piece of straight plastic tubing so I don't know if it L'd into the firewall or if I need to find another location where it was connected.

Ive redone my complete interior, heater controls and dash, as it seems the heater control does have the plastic line that runs from the wheel port valve straight thru the grommet on the firewall and to the heater control valve ,it is all one piece that is molded into the grommet, I had to extend the end of mine at the control vavle because it was brittle and broken. I used a piece of 1/4 OD- 1/8 ID tubing and slipped it over the piece that was left.

I have factory A/C so it didn't have a heater valve. I do however have two lines coming out from the firewall near the distributor, there is no T there. One of the lines loops back into the firewall and into the windshield wiper valley and to the side for the passenger vent. The other line runs over to a T where it connects to the vacuum feed. Neither one is where the heater valve should be connected.

I did however install a heater valve myself and spliced into the vacuum system. The vacuum lines are color coded, here's how they look:

If your heater valve closes when vacuum is applied (my valve was this way) then you need to splice into port #8. In an A/C system there will already be a TAN line there and I simply spliced into it with a T. But, if you don't have a line there, then just run a vacuum line all the way to it from the valve and stuff it into port #8.

If your heater valve opens when vacuum is applied then you need to splice into port #5. There already is a PINK line there, so just T into it.

Hope this helps.

Very cool...........The 75 diagram gave me more information than what was available in the 72 AIM. Another successful adventure, Thanks!
